What SiteStripe is (official help)

Official SiteStripe help: Associates Central — SiteStripe. Amazon describes a bar on Amazon.com so you can create links without visiting Associates Central first.

Get Link → Text builds short and long links to the current Amazon page. Your Associate ID and tracking ID are already included in the short link. The initially generated short link uses your last-used IDs; you can specify which IDs to use. Copy that short link into your site (Amazon also mentions Facebook and Twitter posts). Linking options vary depending on whether you are on a product detail page.

Earnings on the stripe opens your Earnings Summary after you log into Associates. Help on the stripe points back at this help topic. Amazon notes it removed some extra links from the stripe for a cleaner bar; those other tools live in Associates Central.

To see the stripe, you must be recognized as the Amazon customer that matches your Associates account. Sign in with that account. If the name at the top is wrong, switch accounts using the flow Amazon documents on that help page.

Turn the stripe on or off from Settings on the stripe, or Associates Central → Account Settings → Associates SiteStripe Options. Confirm live labels if Amazon renames a menu.

Hover the pasted link before you publish. A stranger should be able to tell it goes to Amazon. Pretty branded buttons that bounce through three domains are a policy conversation, not a design flex.

Un-tagged amazon.com URLs are not Associates links. The Operating Agreement / Participation Requirements say Special Links must use the Associates ID assigned to you, included as a tag parameter in the URL. SiteStripe’s job is to put that tag on the link you copy.

Product pages vs search pages

Amazon’s SiteStripe help is explicit: links to specific products can only be made if you are viewing that specific product. If you are not on a product detail page, you cannot invent a product Special Link from a search-results screenshot. Open the product first.

Category or other page types get whatever linking options the stripe shows on that page. Do not assume every Amazon URL offers the same Get Link menu.

If Get Link is missing, you are usually signed out, on the wrong Amazon account, or on a page the stripe does not treat as linkable. Fix the sign-in before you paste a handmade URL and hope the tag is right.

Cloaking is a policy job

Amazon’s Program Policies / Participation Requirements include language that you will not cloak, hide, spoof, or otherwise obscure the URL of your Site containing Special Links (including by use of Redirecting Links) so Amazon cannot reasonably determine the site or application the customer clicked from.

A nearby rule: you will not use a link shortening service, button, hyperlink, or other ad placement in a manner that makes it unclear you are linking to an Amazon Site.

SiteStripe’s own short links are Amazon’s tool. Third-party shorteners are the risk. If a reader cannot tell the click goes to Amazon, do not ship that placement.

You are also responsible for placing the tag so tracking works. Pretty buttons that hide the destination fail the “unclear” rule even if a tag is buried in a redirect.
