Amazon Associates Cookie Window and Commission: The Payout Reality Card

Amazon Associates cookie window and commission: official 24-hour cart rule, cart expiry, 180-day qualify. Read category rates in Associates Central—no invented payouts.

Amazon Associates Cookie Window and Commission: The Payout Reality Card

People search Amazon Associates cookie window and commission when they want the payout clock—not another “what is Associates” lesson.

This page is the Payout Reality Card: official timing, what closes a session, and how to read category rates without treating a screenshot from 2024 as law. It is not Amazon Associates for beginners. It is not Amazon Associates Application Rejected. Those are fit and reapply jobs.

Amazon Associates typically tracks a 24-hour window to add qualifying items to the cart after a click, can still pay if that carted item is bought before the cart expires (often about 90 days), and—as of the April 14, 2026 agreement update—requires the item to be delivered or downloaded and paid for within 180 days. Category rates live in the official Commission Income Statement, not in this article’s guesses.

Disclosure: CashPilot may earn a commission from some links at no extra cost to you. Marketplace rules differ. Official Associates pages win.

Amazon’s public help on cart timing (Associates help topic) says, in substance:

  1. You earn on qualifying items placed in the Shopping Cart within 24 hours of the customer arriving via your Associates link.
  2. That 24-hour window closes when they submit an order or re-enter through another Associate’s link.
  3. If they add an item during the window and leave without buying, you can still earn if they order before the Shopping Cart expires (Amazon says usually after 90 days).
  4. Credit lands after purchase, accepted delivery, and full payment—not at click.

A new click on your link later opens a new 24-hour window. An old tagged URL does not “expire like milk”; the session is what is short.

The 180-day qualify (April 14, 2026)

Amazon’s Operating Agreement — what’s changed lists a 180-day requirement: products must be shipped to, streamed or downloaded by, and paid for by the customer to qualify.

That is a qualify clock on top of the cart story—not a replacement for the 24-hour add-to-cart rule. If a pre-order sits too long, or payment never clears, do not assume the click still pays. Check the live Commission Income Statement (policies page hosts the statement) for exclusions.

Same update also:

  • Widened disqualified purchases from paid or boosted ads linking to Amazon (limited exceptions)
  • Narrowed onsite commission to Direct Qualifying Purchases of the same ASIN variant as the linked product-detail page

If your mental model is “they clicked a keyboard and I earn on a TV they bought next month,” that model is exactly what Amazon has been tightening. Read the statement; do not keep the rumor.

Commission: how to read rates without a fake table

Amazon pays by product category. The live numbers sit in the Associates Program Commission Income Statement inside Associates Central—not in a CashPilot spreadsheet.

Use this read-order so you do not paste a blogger’s 2023 chart into a client report:

StepOpenWrite down
1Commission Income Statement for your Amazon siteCategory % for the products you actually link
2Exclusions / 0% rowsGift cards, categories Amazon lists as ineligible
3Qualifying purchase definitionCookie + cart + 180-day + ad rules
4Your own nicheElectronics vs books vs accessories—expect different %

We will not invent a “typical 1–4%” contract. Categories move. India, UK, and US statements are not interchangeable.

What usually kills a click you thought you owned

  • Shopper hits another Associate’s link inside the 24 hours (official close condition)
  • They never add the item during the window, then buy days later from a clean Amazon visit
  • Paid/boosted traffic to Amazon that the current agreement treats as disqualified
  • You linked one ASIN and assumed storewide halo the way older posts described—verify the same-variant onsite rule
  • Return or non-payment after “sale” in a report

Disclosure still matters on every page that uses tagged links. Amazon’s agreement expects a clear Associates disclosure (the familiar qualifying-purchases sentence). CashPilot’s affiliate disclosure is our site’s notice, not a substitute for yours. FTC endorsement guidance still applies.

If you are still choosing a network, Affiliate Networks for New Bloggers maps Amazon next to ShareASale and Impact. Cookie length is one reason people add a software offer beside Amazon—not a reason to lie about Amazon’s clock.

FAQ

Official US help: 24 hours to add qualifying cart items after arrival on your link. The window closes on order or on another Associate’s click. Carted items can still pay if bought before cart expiry (usually about 90 days). Confirm your marketplace.

What is the 180-day rule?

April 14, 2026 agreement update: shipped/streamed/downloaded and paid within 180 days to qualify. See Amazon’s compare page and the live statement.

How much does Amazon Associates pay?

Category rates in the official Commission Income Statement. Not a number we invent here.

If they buy something else, do I still get paid?

Only as the current statement defines qualifying and onsite/direct purchases. The 2026 update tightened same-ASIN-variant onsite scope. Check the live text.

When is commission credited?

After purchase, accepted delivery, and full payment, per official cart-window help. Returns can reverse it under program terms.

Is this the beginners article?

No. This URL is cookie and commission only.

Do paid ads to Amazon still pay?

Often not, after the April 2026 paid/boosted expansion. Read the agreement.

Where do I verify?

Associates home, policies / commission statement, agreement, what’s changed, cart-timing help.

Open the Commission Income Statement for your country today. Write the 24-hour / cart / 180-day clocks on a sticky note. Then build pages that match a real cart add—not a 30-day SaaS fantasy.
