Word to Text Online: Pull the Words, Leave the Layout

A Word to text online job is a .docx that should leave as a .txt you can paste—no fonts, no columns, no “keep the letterhead.”

Open it: Word to Text.

This page is Plain-Then-Paste. It is not PDF to Text online free. It is not Word to PDF. Hub: CashPilot Free Tools.

Drop a .docx under the live cap, convert, download the TXT, then paste into the field that actually asked for plain text.

Disclosure: Word to Text is our own CashPilot Tools product. Facts match the live Word Conversion card as of this writing.

Plain-Then-Paste

        PLAIN-THEN-PASTE
  1. SOURCE → .docx (not a PDF print)
  2. CAP → under the live MB limit
  3. RUN → TXT out
  4. OPEN → check that paragraphs survived
  5. PASTE → into the form that banned uploads

A grants portal that only accepts pasted copy belongs here. A client who still wants the branded letterhead belongs on Word to PDF.

If the source is already a PDF, stop. PDF to Text owns that extract. If the PDF is a scan, you may need OCR first—this Word tool will not invent text from a photograph glued into a DOCX.

Tables become a pile of cells. That is expected. If you still need a spreadsheet, Word to Excel is a different conversion card—do not expect TXT to keep column geometry.

CMS paste is where people get angry. You asked for plain text, then the editor “helpfully” wraps every line as its own paragraph. Collapse doubles in the destination, not by running Word to text twice. If the portal also bans smart quotes, search the TXT for curly marks before you submit.

Comments and footnotes do not always travel. If the legal team marked up the DOCX, keep that file as the source of truth and treat TXT as a paste dump only.

Password-protected files can fail before a TXT appears. Unlock first.

When you should not strip the file

Signatures, comments, and tracked changes are part of the Word file. Plain text will not carry “who accepted which edit.” Keep the DOCX when the history is the point.

If you only needed a smaller email, compress Word shrinks the DOCX without throwing layout away.

If you needed chapters as separate Word files, that is Split Word—still designed documents, just smaller ones.

Common misses

Uploading a .doc (legacy). Re-save as .docx first if the card asks for it.

Uploading a PDF because “it’s basically Word.” Wrong suite.

Pasting the TXT into a CMS and then wondering where the H2s went. You asked to leave the layout.

Emailing a TXT that still contains an internal price you meant to delete. Open it. Search for leftover numbers.
