Is this the same as merge Excel?

No. Merge combines several workbooks. Split starts with one workbook and produces parts. Keep those jobs on separate URLs.

Is this split PDF or split Word?

No. Split PDF owns page ranges in a PDF. Split Word owns a .docx. This URL owns sheets in a workbook.

What happens to formulas that point at other sheets?

The live FAQ: cross-sheet formulas may break when sheets are separated. If a totals tab reads three department tabs, split is a rescue after you copy values—or do not split that file.

What is the size cap?

If the file is already a PDF of printed sheets, stop. Split PDF owns ranges. If you only needed a smaller email, compress Excel may be enough without cutting tabs.

Name parts before you zip-share: acme-marketing.xlsx, not Sheet3.xlsx. Clients open the wrong file when names are leftover Excel defaults.

Password-protected or corrupt workbooks can fail before a ZIP appears. Unlock or re-save first.

One workbook that is really five client exports glued as tabs should have been five files from the start. Split is a rescue, not a filing system.

Hidden sheets still become files if the card exports every sheet. Open the ZIP and count parts against the tabs you can see in Excel. If you get a surprise Sheet_old, delete that part before you send—or unhide and clean the master first.

Very wide sheets that only exist to feed a dashboard may be useless alone. If the tab has no labels without its neighbor, do not split that workbook.

When formulas will break

A SUM that reads DeptA!B2 dies when DeptA leaves the file. Copy values on the totals tab first, or keep the master intact and send a filtered view from Excel instead.

This page will not invent a “preserve links” mode the card does not show. If the live FAQ still warns about cross-sheet formulas, believe it.

Excel to PDF after split if they asked for a printout of one tab. Do not split a PDF on this tool.

Common misses

Uploading a .csv. The card asks for .xlsx.

Uploading a Word file because “it’s a table.” Wrong suite—use Split Word only if the source is actually DOCX.

Emailing the ZIP without opening it. One empty part from a hidden sheet surprises people.

Splitting so you can merge again an hour later. Pick the deliverable once.
