Amazon Associates Tracking ID vs Store ID: Not a Second Account

Tracking ID vs store ID (Associates ID): one account, extra tags for sites—Manage your Tracking ID. Not OneLink geo. Not a second payout login.

Amazon Associates Tracking ID vs Store ID: Not a Second Account

Amazon Associates tracking ID vs store ID answers one SERP question: is a tracking ID a second account? No. The Associates ID (often labeled store ID in Central) is the account. Extra tracking IDs are tags under that same account so you can split sites or campaigns. Earnings still land on one Associates ID.

This page is Account-Then-Tag. It is not OneLink geo-redirect. It is not SiteStripe official links. It is not Creative Builder vs SiteStripe. It is not reports click vs purchase. Beginners still owns program fit.

Create tags via Manage your Tracking ID. Amazon’s example pattern: storeid-20 as the account, with storeid-1-20 for a website and storeid-2-21 for a newsletter—confirm live help.

Account-Then-Tag

        ACCOUNT-THEN-TAG
  1. ACCOUNT → Associates ID / store ID (one account identity)
  2. TAGS → extra tracking IDs under that same account
  3. CREATE → Manage your Tracking ID (Amazon’s menu name)
  4. USE → put the matching tag on each site or campaign
  5. VIEW → all tags together, or one Tracking ID Summary

A second blog is not a second Associates account. Amazon’s tracking-ID help exists so you can analyse websites or merchandising strategies while earnings still accumulate under a single Associates ID.

If you only ever paste the default tag, you can still get paid when a click qualifies. You just cannot see which URL earned the line. That is a reporting convenience, not a second pot of money.

What Amazon’s glossary actually says

From the Associates glossary (confirm live text):

  • Associates ID: an automatically generated unique ID used to identify your Associates account.
  • Tracking ID: IDs you may request to track the performance of multiple websites or even individual links. Like Associates IDs, they appear in the links you use to refer traffic. They remain associated with your main Associates ID and do not constitute separate accounts.
  • Tracking ID Summary Reports: performance of individual tracking IDs—clicks, items ordered, items dispatched, dispatched items revenue, referral commissions, and total earnings. Column literacy for click vs order vs ship stays on the reports owner. This page only explains why a tag column exists.

People say “store ID” in Central, OneLink screens, and third-party posts. Treat it as the account identity Amazon generated—not as a freelance nickname you invent. “Preferred Associates store ID” is wording you may see when a tool asks which account identity to attach. Confirm the field on the live screen. We will not invent a second official definition for “preferred.”

US-style IDs often end in -20, as in Amazon’s own example storeid-20. Other marketplaces use different suffixes. Do not print a suffix table from memory. Read the ID Amazon assigned in that country’s Central.

Third-party blogs also claim a store ID can never be renamed. The official pages cited here do not publish a rename rule. Confirm in Central; we will not invent a rename policy. If Customer Service or live help states one, use that text.

Split sites without splitting the account

Amazon’s tracking-ID explainer (confirm live):

  • With tracking IDs, Associates can analyse performance of various websites or merchandising strategies while accumulating earnings under a single Associates ID.
  • Example: Associate storeid-20 might use storeid-1-20 for a website and storeid-2-21 for a newsletter. Each ID generates earnings for Associates account storeid-20.
  • You can view earnings for all tracking IDs together, or generate reports for each tracking ID individually.
  • Create them from your account via Manage your Tracking ID.
  • Amazon also notes report and link-builder conveniences: the Tracking ID Summary Report can limit rows to IDs with activity in the requested period; account report downloads can include the tracking ID on each transaction; you can change the tracking ID used in generated code while you build links.

The request topic repeats the create path and the 100 Tracking IDs per associate account limit. Further requirements: contact Associates Customer Service. After they exist, Amazon points you to the Tracking ID Summary Report.

A realistic split: one tag on the blog, one on a newsletter, one on a YouTube description if that property is allowed for your account. That is merchandising strategy, not a new tax identity. Payment still follows the Associates account those tags belong to.

Do not invent commission rates, cookie length, or “which tag pays more.” Rates and the qualify clock live on other owners. A tag only tells you which door the click used.

One mistake beginners often make is creating a second Associates application because a second site launched. Read the tracking-ID page first. Extra sites are why the tag feature exists.

OneLink maps store IDs across countries and asks for a default tracking ID on each destination store so the geo-redirect can swap in the local tag. That is international store mapping. It is not “what is my Associates ID on one marketplace.”

SiteStripe copies a Special Link while you browse Amazon. The stripe can embed last-used IDs or let you specify which Associate ID and tracking ID to use. Copy-link is a different owner.

If a report line looks empty, do not assume the store ID is “broken.” Confirm the tag on the live URL, then use the reports owner for column meaning. This URL will not become a second reports tutorial.

International payouts, returns, and paid-ad disqualifies are still other doors. A tracking ID does not override a refund or a policy block.

FAQ

What is the Associates ID or store ID?

Amazon: an automatically generated unique ID for the account. Central may say store ID. Same identity. Confirm the live label.

What is a tracking ID?

An extra tag under that account for sites or even individual links. Not a separate account. Official glossary wins.

Extra accounts?

No. Earnings accumulate under the single Associates ID.

How many tags?

Amazon says 100 per associate account. More: Customer Service. Path: Manage your Tracking ID.

No. OneLink is geo store mapping plus a default tag per destination. Different owner.

SiteStripe?

Copy-link tool. It can carry the last-used IDs. Confirm before you paste.

Can I rename the store ID?

Confirm in Central. We will not invent a rename policy.

Why -20?

Amazon’s US example uses storeid-20. Other marketplaces use other suffixes. Read your Central, not a blog table.

Sign in to Associates Central, open What are tracking IDs, and use Manage your Tracking ID if you actually need a second site or a newsletter split. Keep the Associates ID as the account. Put one tag on each property. View the Tracking ID Summary when you want a per-door line—not a second payout account. For geo defaults, use the OneLink page. For copy-paste, use SiteStripe.
