AI Blog Outline Template: Decide Before You Draft

AI blog outline template: intent, H2 map, and fact slots before drafting—supports AI blogging owner without fake test claims.

AI Blog Outline Template: Decide Before You Draft

An AI blog outline template forces decisions before tokens get spent: who the reader is, what the page must prove, and which sections are non-negotiable. Drafting without that map is how sites collect thin, same-shaped posts.

This page is Outline-Then-Draft. It is not AI blogging that pays (system owner). It is not fact-check before publish (post-draft). It is not edit AI content to sound human. It is not content optimization tools comparison.

Table of contents

  1. Outline-Then-Draft
  2. Copy-paste outline template
  3. Fill each block honestly
  4. Outline patterns by intent
  5. Cluster and overlap gate
  6. From outline to AI prompt
  7. FAQ
  8. Outline one post in ten minutes

Outline-Then-Draft

        OUTLINE-THEN-DRAFT
  1. INTENT → one primary reader job
  2. OWNER → check no duplicate keyword+intent
  3. H2 MAP → section jobs, not vague labels
  4. FACTS → official sources listed per section
  5. DRAFT → AI fills sections you already designed
  6. CHECK → fact-check + human edit pass

Outlines do not guarantee rankings. They reduce rework when GSC shows impressions but weak engagement—structure matches intent faster.

Copy-paste outline template

# Working title (not final):
# Primary keyword:
# Intent type: Informational / Commercial / Tutorial / Comparison
# Owner check: existing URL to link early (if cluster support):

## Reader
- Who:
- Their job today:
- What they should do after reading:

## Promise (1–2 sentences)

## H2 map
1. [H2] — job this section does
   - Must include:
   - Official source:
2. [H2] —
   - Must include:
   - Official source:
3. [H2] —
4. [H2] — mistakes or when-not
5. [H2] — FAQ candidates (real questions only)

## Internal links (2–5 real slugs)
-

## CTA (if any)
- Tool / offer:
- Why it fits this intent:

## Do-not sections (avoid cannibalization)
-

Save one filled outline per post in your notes—not in the published HTML.

Fill each block honestly

Reader: “Bloggers with 500 daily sessions” beats “everyone interested in SEO.”

Promise: State the deliverable—checklist, comparison table, tool walkthrough.

H2 map: Each H2 answers one sub-question. Ban orphan headings like “Introduction to the topic” with no job.

Official source: AdSense, Amazon, Google Search Central, vendor pricing pages—not random listicles.

Do-not sections: If AdSense checklist owns approval, your supporting post should not rewrite the full gate.

Outline patterns by intent

IntentOutline spine
Tool jobOpen tool → steps → limits → mistakes → FAQ
Policy fixStatus meaning → triage table → official links
ComparisonDecision criteria → table → who each fits
Process SEOWorkflow diagram → checklist → when-not

Vary shape from the last three posts you shipped—readers and reviewers notice template fatigue.

Cluster and overlap gate

Before drafting:

  1. Search PUBLISHED_POSTS titles for the primary keyword
  2. If owner exists, outline a supporting angle and early-link the owner
  3. If GSC shows 0 clicks on a winner, consider FIX title/meta—not a new sibling

Example: canonical tag queries need cluster support posts, not a second explainer—link canonical tags explained.

From outline to AI prompt

Prompt pattern:

Write section 2 only from this outline. Use [source URL]. Do not invent stats. 120–180 words. Link to /blog/{owner}/ once naturally.

Section-by-section drafting beats “write 2000 words about X” monoliths—you catch drift early.

Then run fact-check and human edit passes before hero generation.

FAQ

Outline length?

One screen in a doc tool—if it exceeds two pages, the post may be two posts.

Pillar posts?

Add TOC anchors in outline; still one intent.

Affiliate posts?

Outline must include disclosure placement and criteria table—not only product names.

Tools posts?

Outline must list live tool URL and cap facts from the card.

Repurpose to video?

Different outline—see YouTube SEO checklist if video is the deliverable.

Outline one post in ten minutes

Pick tomorrow’s slug. Fill the template through H2 map only. Stop. If you cannot name two official sources, research first—do not draft. Outline-Then-Draft saves an hour of cutting filler later and keeps AI blogging aligned with money-path posts instead of random volume.
